Top Ten Turkey Day Freebies

I can’t believe November starts in just a few days! And after that it’s only three more weeks until Thanksgiving break! We’re almost there folks. To help you hang on until we get there, I’ve compiled a list of the top ten turkey day freebies from around the web that are easy to prep, keep students engaged, and still present optimal learning opportunitites.

1. Label the Turkey from United Teaching– This was a fun one to use with writing. My class was working on “All About” nonfiction writing. We researched turkeys, wrote facts about them, and then completed this labeling worksheet as the text feature.

2. Gobble Gobble Headbands from Kindergarten’s 3Rs– This one would be great for a math center on patterning. It uses squares of pre-cut fall-colored construction paper to glue a pattern on a paper strip. A turkey head is added, and then the strip is connected to form a headband.

3. No-Bake Pumpkin Pie in a Cup from The Printable Princess– If you want to add a little “cooking” adventure to your day, try making pumpkin pie in a cup. It’s a fairly easy layered dessert that comes with a sequencing sheet to complete after making it! The creator even includes a link to apple pie in a cup as well for us apple people!

4. Gobble, Gobble! Roll, Add, and Color from The Classroom Creative– Here’s an easy game to use in a math center. You only need to print the board and add two dice. Students roll two dice and then mark/color the sum on the gameboard. You could make multiple copies for coloring or make one and place it in a page protector to use with dry erase markers or two colors of marking chips. Whoever gets the most sums, wins!

5. Give Me Two More: Math Game from Amy Johnston on Teachers Pay Teachers– This is a similar concept to the one above only instead of adding the two dice, the students add the dice and then 2 for the total.

6. Thanksgiving Foods Book from Playdough to Plato- I have used this one in my reading small groups. It is short and full of simple sight words. The students loved that I let them color it on the last day of using the book in our group!

7. Thanksgiving Word Search from First Tries and Sunny Skies– Some years my students are into wordsearches, others not. Try them with your students and see. They are good for visual discrimination and vocabulary building. My students LOVE when they get to use highlighters, too!

8. Thanksgiving Coloring Pages from The Primary Parade– These are color-by-code coloring pages with Thanksgiving images. Coloring is fantastic for working on fine motor skills and you’re adding on other skills with the code element.

9. Thankful Tree from Simply Kinder– I really like this one because it combines several skills! Students are coloring, cutting, and gluing, but, also, identifying colors and adding numbers. Furthermore, students are showing gratitude by writing what they are thankful for on each leaf.

10. Thanksgiving Craft Hat from Simply Kinder– Another favorite of mine from Simply Kinder. On this one, students draw and write what they are thankful on boxes that attach to a sentence strip. They, also, color in the turkey at the top of the boxes. Once cut out and attached to the sentence strip, staple the strip to create a headband. I’ve used this one several times!
