I can’t believe Valentine’s Day is Tuesday! Now that January has FINALLY ended, February seems to be flying by! With that, I’m going to share some easy to prepare last minute Valentine’s Day activities. That way just in case you forgot or just didn’t have the time to get something together, you’ll have something fun for your students to do to celebrate this day of love and kindness!
1. Valentine’s Bingo- This is a class favorite! You can print the boards and have markers for students to place on the pictures. Then, have some small prizes for the winners! I have used stickers, tattoos, or small trinkets from my local Dollar Tree in the past. Here are two FREE options for gameboards!
2. Compli-mat Activity- I used this in my first grade class and was observed while students completed it! The person observing me complimented me on the activity! This one comes from Teachers Pay Teachers, so I can’t take full credit for it! It does cost, but not too much.
3. I Love You to Pieces Valentine for Parent/Someone Special- Students will rip up construction paper (fine motor skills, yay!) and glue it inside a paper heart. Then, the valentine can be given to someone at home. This one is FREE! If you’re interested in learning more about the importance of fine motor skills, check out my post 7 Materials to Strengthen Fine Motor Skills.
4. Candy Heart Sort/Graph- You will need to purchase candy hearts for students to complete this activity. This close to Valentine’s Day, they should be on sale. You can choose to get small boxes, 1 for each studnet, or get a couple large bags and divide them up between your students. Then, you only need to download and print these FREE worksheets. Scroll to the bottom to find it once you click the link below. You could have your class first sort and, then, graph or choose the one that would work best with your students.
5. Valentine’s Day Would You Rather?- My students always love answering “Would you rather…?” questions. This activity can be executed in several ways. You could sprinkle in questions throughout the day or use it as a brain break. You could have a few students answer each question and explain why they chose that answer or use movement to get the whole class involved in answering each question. However you choose to use these FREE questions, your students are sure to have a blast!
6. Valentine’s Day Wreath- This is one I have not done, but saved recently. It looked like a simple craft to print for FREE that would turn out cute! I would print this on cardstock to make it easier to assemble. There is even a video on the site that shows you how to put it together. I would create this craft with 1st graders or aboveat due to the cutting, folding, and gluing. Your students may need support with the yarn piece at the end. If you use this, I’d love you to put a photo of a finished product in the comments!
7. Valentine’s Snap Cube Mats- I have used snap cube mats with kindergarteners in the past, but not this specific FREE set. I placed them in a center because it is a great independent activity. Most early elementary classrooms already have snap cubes, so that makes this activity print and go. You can print this on cardstock. Another option is to print on copy paper and place the papers in page protectors or laminate them. You don’t even have to print them in color. Let students be creative and choose their own colors!
8. Valentine’s Day Brain Break Videos- Sometimes all you need to spruce up a holiday is a couple new brain break videos! Share these with your students to get them movin’ and groovin’! If you enjoy these brain breaks, check out my other posts full of brain break videos, such as Winter Brain Breaks to Energize Student for Learning!
